AN OLDER POST FROM MY FACEBOOK NOTES
I feel like Forrest Gump...
I feel like Forrest Gump...
Last night, I was talking with my Ecuadorian family about my luck with walking into the hospital and getting a job (AND THE PRESIDENT´S SCRUBS!).
Note: My face is so red because I did not wear any sunscreen this weekend AND because (supposedly) the sun rays are more severe in Quito. Annie (Augusto´s sister) has her own theory that the since the world is "not round", the sun shines brighter on the Equator. I don't believe her... she's only an architect.
So my face is probably the reddest its ever been.
So my face is probably the reddest its ever been.
Coming right off the street, for all they know, I could be a psycho axe-murderer from the states... Kinda like Rob Hodge´s favorite movie:
They didn´t ask for any real papers or anything. They took my Microsoft Word-typed letter explaining who I was and what I wanted to do.
My Ecuadorian mother said I was so lucky. She said I needed to pick some numbers for the lottery...
So here they are:
7-5-19-8-4
If you´re a betting man or woman... give those numbers are shot tomorrow. You may win something. But if you do... give me a percentage.
I told her that I felt more like Forrest Gump...
She laughingly agreed and predicted that within two weeks, I will probably be the assistant to Rafael Correa... the President of Ecuador.
My Ecuadorian mother also fixed my scrubs since they were way too big.
She also kindly embroidered my Spanish name onto a patch. I am very thankful for that.
I was able to wear them today during my first day of shadowing.
My first day went well, but not much to write about (just introductions and 3 patients... nose bleed, asthma, and sprained ankle). I will write more about my first few days of shadowing later when I have something more interesting to say or show...
