Music is Magical! Metaphysical! Medicinal!

Music is Magical! Metaphysical! Medicinal!

A few weeks ago I had a patient who had quite the sad situation...
He just found out he had a terminal illness, left his family and friends in his home country a few months back to make something of hisself in the United States, and had an illness that caused a lot of pain.

So I was passing him his meds one night and he made the comment with a smile,
"Hey Mon, you know that pain drug you're giving me is made from marajuana?"

I replied, "Yeah... its kinda cool isn't it? I'm a lil drug dealer, aren't I?" "Except I don't get paid nearly as much as they do."

He laughed and told me how he loved to smoke marajuana back in the day. And then asked me, "You like Bob Marley?" Which I replied with a Yes but explained how I wasn't the biggest fan. Its good from time to time. Then I preceded to tell him of the few songs I knew. And trying to relate I asked, "Do you like that one song.... When the music hits you, you feel no pain."

"Oh yeah, Mon... that is the best. Yeah... I love me some Marley", he said.

At this point, I had to leave and go to another patient so I wouldn't get behind.

*** HOURS LATER ***

So its time for me to go back into the room and I knew I was going to be in the room for awhile doing stuff. So I thought it would be good for me play some music to settle him a little bit. So with my Jesus phone (aka iPhone), I go to Pandora Radio and put it on the Bob Marley Radio station. So I go into the room and turn the iPhone on speaker mode, so he could hear the Reggae music.

He gets a kick out of it and smiles. I continue on with whatever I was doing.

Now at this point... I'm not sure if it was coincedence or G-d (or Jah), but if you use Pandora Radio... you know that Pandora plays songs at random... you cannot choose the songs. Its totally random.

So at this point, the song "Trench Town Rock" comes on... the song I was referencing earlier...
Go to this link to hear the song, while you read the rest:

"One good thing about music, when it hits you (you feel no pain)
Oh, oh, I say, one good thing about music, when it hits you (you feel no pain)
Hit me with music, hit me with music now."

So I stayed in for the duration of the song and then had to move on. As I was leaving he said this to me... "Mon, this was better than any of the other pain meds you have given me. Music is my medicine. Thanks."

Its amazing how powerful music is to the human soul.
The Power of Music and Marley...
"One good thing about music, when it hits, you feel no pain. So hit me with music..."

THE END.
